There’s a special kind of joy that doesn’t show up in Jira tickets or Slack updates. I know the junior developers, or the interns will relate so hard! :)
It’s the joy of finally solving something — alone.
As a developer, I live in a world full of collaboration:
Stand-ups, reviews, pair programming, and shared repos.
But sometimes, there’s that one issue that becomes mine.
The one that refuses to go away no matter how many Stack Overflow tabs I open.
A few months ago, I was debugging a polling service that mysteriously froze during large payload extractions.
Logs weren’t helping, traces were clean, and my teammates had already been on other priority tasks. Asked around for help, but no-one knew that codebase of the service.
Eventually I decided to stay back that evening .
Just me, my code, and my deadly stare at the laptop-screen.
I kept debugging, and debugging.
After hours of narrowing it down, I spotted it.
A small async deadlock — one missing await.
So, it was somewhat like this:
async def fetch_data():
await asyncio.sleep(1)
return "done"
async def main():
result = fetch_data() # forgot 'await'
print(result)and the output was:
<coroutine object fetch_data at 0x...>No error. No exception :)
That coroutine never runs unless awaited (or scheduled with asyncio.create_task).
That night, I fixed it, restarted the service, and watched it run smoothly.
No fireworks, no applause :)
Just that quiet satisfaction that only developers truly understand.
Like asilent nod to myself: “You didn’t give up.”
We often celebrate big wins. Product launches, promotions, new features.
But the real growth hides in these small, solitary victories.
They build our patience, sharpen our instincts.
Also, the next time you solve something on your own, don’t rush to move on. Pause for a second. Let that joy sink in.
In case we are meeting for the first time, come over here, it’ll be worth the roller coaster of articles that are gonna come up in the next few weeks.
