Just write.
“Perfectionism is the voice of the oppressor, the enemy of the people. It will keep you cramped and insane your whole life.” — Anne Lamott
I have always had this self-doubt. Is my writing up to the mark?
Before publishing something on my blog, I’d send it to ten people and even if one said it wasn’t that good, I’d restrain myself from publishing it. Even though, only ten people were reading my blog (literally)
The thing is that when you’re a writer or a creator of any kind, you want to be the best. This is that trap. One that’s easiest to fall into — perfectionism.
Imagine writing something remarkable — something that genuinely resonates with people, just for once. And now you find yourself bogged down by the pressure to make each word flawless, each story unforgettable. Kinda feel sad thinking how I fell for this, I swear :(
So, let’s just be imperfect?
Lessons in Imperfection
Looking back, I see how perfectionism held me back in my early writing days. I would spend hours crafting each sentence, fearing it might not be “good enough.”
But over time, I learned that consistency is more valuable than perfection. Now, I write daily, embracing my mistakes as part of the process.
My writing might not be perfect, but I’m growing, learning, and sharing stories that matter.
I mean — come on!
Imperfections make us human, and they create space for genuine connections with readers.
Conclusion:
If you’re constantly striving for perfection, take a step back. Just write.
Let your ideas flow, embrace your mistakes, and remember that every draft gets better with practice.
The only way to become a PERFECT writer is to keep writing :)
