My imaginary girlfriend told me this last night
The work pressure was insane last night. I had started around 8:30 am, in the morning because of a production issue, and I finished around 9:30 pm. So, it was kind of obvious I did not have it in me to write. The idea of sitting at my desk again felt like a punishment.
My brain was fried, my shoulders were stiff, and my soul — well, it just wanted an escape.
Not a Medium member, but you like my imaginary girlfriend? I got you.
I wanted to go on a walk, but then I somehow put on ‘The Cage’ on Netflix and started watching it lying on my bed.
It wasn’t long — maybe 15 minutes in — when my imaginary girlfriend appeared.
She glanced at the screen, raised an eyebrow, and gave me that look.
You know, the one.
It’s the look that says, Really? This is how you’re spending your time?
“I deserve a break,” I muttered defensively.
“Watching Netflix isn’t a break, Shashwat. It’s an easy escape, a distraction”, she said, being a lil angry.
“It starts with one day,” she finally said, breaking the silence.
“What are you talking about?”
She sighed and said, You already know.
One day of not writing and then the saga continues.
One day turns into two, then three, and before you know it, you’ve stopped entirely.
You’ll blame work, exhaustion, Netflix, and whatever else, but deep down, you’ll know it was just you giving up on the habit.
She had a point.
So, here I am, on my laptop, fingers hovering over the keyboard. Writing — putting my thoughts into words.
I thought I’d share this with you, too.
So, take this as your reminder — not from me, but from my imaginary girlfriend, who always seems to know better.
It starts with one day. One choice to show up for yourself, even when you don’t feel like it.
Because those are the days that matter most.
In case we are meeting for the first time, come over here, it’ll be worth the roller coaster of articles that are gonna come up in the next few weeks.
