If you were coding in December 2025,
you remember this:
Google’s Antigravity, their coolest and the free “Agentic IDE.”
To get us hooked, they gave us the keys to the kingdom.
We are talking about unthrottled access to Gemini 3 Pro and the holy grail, Claude Opus 4.5.
It was too good to be true. You could spin up 5 agents, have them architect a backend, write the tests, and fix their own bugs, all while you drank coffee. And the cost? $0. Or a measly “Pro” subscription that felt like theft.
We flew too close to the sun, friends.
The Crash (January last week, 2026)
This morning, I opened my IDE to start my workday. I checked my Antigravity Quota Monitor (the extension we all installed because Google’s native UI hides the limits).
Usually, I see green bars. I see abundance.
But today…
EXHAUSTED!

I hopped on the support channels and Reddit, and everyone confirms it. It’s not a bug. It’s a policy update.
Google has introduced “Dynamic Weekly Limits.”
- Old Reality: You could burn 1M tokens a day.
- New Reality: You get a burst of allowance, and once it’s gone, you are in “Cool Down” for 5 to 7 days.
They didn’t just lower the ceiling, they lowered the floor.
The “Thinking” models (the ones that actually work) now eat quota 5x faster.
A single complex refactor request this morning wiped out my entire weekly allowance of Claude Opus.
The “Bait and Switch”
This is the classic cloud playbook:
- Subsidize: Launch a tool with unsustainable economics to kill competitors (RIP Cursor, RIP Windsurf).
- Addict: Get developers to build workflows that depend on that specific tech stack.
- Monetize: Once we are locked in, turn off the free tap and introduce “Enterprise Pricing.”
We are currently in Phase 3.
What Now?
The dream of “Agentic Development” isn’t dead, but the Free version is. I’m currently staring at a codebase that I don’t fully understand because I let an Agent write 40% of it.
Now that the Agent is “out of quota,” I have to actually read the documentation or wait until next week, or maybe start using other IDEs/LLMs.
It was fun while it lasted.
In case we are meeting for the first time, come over here, it’ll be worth the roller coaster of articles that are gonna come up in the next few weeks.
